Day 138 - A Slow Morning, Strong Runs and Beach Time in San Foca
Day 138 after a bit of a late one last night meant a slow start again. We all rolled out of bed around 8, straight into coffees and easing into the day.
Maddie was half keen for a run but couldn’t find anything comfortable to wear, so that was enough to call it. Emmett, on the other hand, was keen as. He wanted to try Maddie’s shoes instead of his because his knees have been a bit sore, so we headed out together.
We kept it really easy and just chatted the whole way, and it worked. He ended up running about a kilometre and a half straight without stopping and didn’t complain about his knees once. It was one of those runs where you realise distraction and pace make a massive difference. We cruised back home together, and then I headed out again for a quick 2km just to push the pace a bit.
When I got back, Kia went out for her run and I stayed back cooking breakfast with the kids. Emmett gave the eggs a crack, burnt one and dropped another, but he was having a go which is all that matters. I finished things off, Kia got back, and we rolled straight into a Tabata workout together, which was actually really good.
After that it was breakfast, another coffee, and a bit of a slow reset. The kids were playing with Lego and games while Kia and I sorted a few life admin things. We had to transfer money and lock in some payments for Morocco, and also just check in on the budget a bit. It ended up taking longer than we thought.
By the time we got through that, we headed down to the beach. The kids got straight into building forts and dragging bits of wood around, and Emmett somehow built a seesaw out of logs, which was pretty impressive. He also ended up kicking a soccer ball around with a local Italian kid, which was cool to watch.
Then he decided he wanted a swim, so Kia ran back to grab his new snorkel mask. I walked along the rocks while he swam and explored, just following him along. He loved it. We ended up staying down there for a couple of hours.
Maddie was happy just sitting back reading for most of it, but eventually she hit her limit and decided it was time for gelato. We tried a new place with some pretty interesting flavours, Bailey’s, Nutella, lemon cheesecake. I thought it was great, but everyone else reckons the other spot we’ve been going to is still better.
After that we headed home, cooked dinner, and then ducked back out to Decathlon. We needed to swap Maddie’s snorkel mask for a bigger one and grab a few other bits. We also returned the luggage wheels we bought. Turns out you’ve actually got to cut the old ones out, which we don’t really have the tools for. So that’s a problem for another day.
Then it was home, into bed, and that wrapped up day 138. Pretty cruisy overall. No schoolwork today, the morning just disappeared between the slow start, runs, breakfast, and sorting Morocco. We’ll need to catch up tomorrow before making the most of our last full day here in San Foca.
