Who we are

We are the Schulkins — Levi, Kia, Maddison, and Emmett, and Running Wild Together is our family’s long-term travel journal.

In 2025 we pressed pause on routine and set out on a year-long journey together around the world. We travel slowly, spending weeks and months in places rather than racing through them. We move on foot, by bike, sometimes by bus or train, and we let our days unfold in the places we live, not just visit.

Here we share what our days actually look like. The runs, the rides, the quiet mornings, the surprising moments, the kids exploring new cultures, and what it feels like to live as a family on the road. Nothing here is instruction, nothing is “how to.” It’s simply what we did, what we noticed, and what continues to shape us as we travel with our kids and learn from the world around us.

Below is a little about each of us.

Levi — The Steady Soul & Quiet Problem Solver

Levi is the calm to the chaos and the family’s practical thinker. With a logical mind, a grounded nature, and a deep love for the outdoors, he brings balance to their adventures. Whether he’s figuring out logistics, mapping out the next destination, or helping the kids understand the world around them, Levi keeps the family moving forward with curiosity and ease.

Kia — The Heart Behind the Adventure

Kia is the steady presence in our family and the one most likely to notice when something feels off or when it’s time to slow down. She brings a deep interest in wellbeing, connection, and personal growth into our travels, and is often the one grounding our days when everything feels busy or overwhelming. Whether it’s supporting the kids through change, creating space for rest, or helping us settle into new places, she plays a big role in shaping the rhythm of our life on the road.

Maddison (10) — The Creative Explorer

Maddie is imaginative, sensitive, and endlessly curious. She loves drawing, designing, creating, and dreaming up stories about the people and places we meet. She feels things deeply and sees beauty in details adults often miss.
This year is her chance to step outside the classroom and into real-life learning, to explore new cultures, try new things, and start discovering who she’s becoming in this big, wide world.

Emmett (8) — The Wildhearted Adventurer

Emmett is pure energy and joy. He climbs anything that looks climbable, befriends animals wherever we go, and throws himself into every moment with his whole heart. He learns by doing, touching, running, exploring, and the outdoors is his favourite place to be.
For him, this trip is the ultimate playground: mountains to race up, oceans to jump into, and an entire world waiting to meet his bold, bright spirit.
