Day 137 - San Foca Comes Alive! Big Day of Go-Karting, Grotto Swims & a Packed Coastal Town

Day 137 started a bit slower after a late night, but we still rolled out of bed around 8 and went straight into the usual coffees and chats about a run. Maddie wasn’t keen at all this morning and just wanted to stay in her room. She said she’d go later, but we all knew that wasn’t happening, especially with a full day ahead.

Kia headed out for a solo run, and the plan was for me to take Emmett out, come back, and then squeeze in another one myself. Instead, Kia got back, Emmett and I went for our run, and when we returned, the house was empty. Kia and Maddie had wandered down to the beach, so we ended up walking around town trying to track them down. Took a little while, but we eventually found them.

The kids played on the beach for a bit, and then Kia ran back to grab the drone so I could get it up in the air. The town felt completely different to a couple of weeks ago. Back then it was dead quiet, almost like a ghost town. Now it was packed. Cyclists everywhere, runners everywhere, people just out and about. It had a proper buzz to it.

After that we headed back, had some breakfast, and got organised for the day. The plan was go-karting at Cartodromo La Conca, about half an hour away. We took the back roads, and it felt like everyone in the region was out. Cars lined up everywhere, big groups having picnics in olive groves, wineries full, just people everywhere. It was actually really cool to see.

The go-kart place itself was a bit of an experience. No signage, no clear direction, and very little help. We got told one thing, then another, and sort of just fumbled our way through the process. Eventually we ended up with two double karts for Kia and I to drive with the kids.

Once we were on the track though, it was unreal. Ten-minute sessions, and way more fun than expected. First run was me with Emmett and Kia with Maddie, and we ended up lapping them a few times. Felt like we were flying, even though we probably weren’t going that fast. Then Maddie wanted another go with me, and Emmett followed that up with another run as well.

In one of the sessions there was a guy in a single kart who was properly quick. Maddie and I tried to chase him down but he just kept pulling away. Last session with Emmett we had the whole track to ourselves, which made it even better.

After that we went looking for food and stopped at a winery, but it didn’t look like they were serving anything, so we kept moving. On the way to the grotto we spotted a food van and grabbed something there instead.

When we got to the grotto, it was the busiest we’d ever seen it. The car park was full, people everywhere, heaps going on. Such a different vibe to when we first arrived in this area. I got the drone up again, then Emmett and I jumped in. Maddie took a bit longer but eventually got in as well. Emmett tried out his new full-face snorkel mask and swam around the bottom, which he loved.

There were groups jumping in, people watching, just a really good atmosphere. After a while we headed back to the car and into town, which was just as busy. We had to park a fair way away and walk back.

Quick showers, then straight back out to soak up the atmosphere. There was a band playing, Emmett and Kia had a bit of a dance, and we wandered through the crowds before finding somewhere to eat. It ended up being more of a drinks spot than a food place, and the meal reflected that. To top it off, we got charged for chips that never came and had to push a bit to get that sorted, which they weren’t too happy about.

Eventually we made our way back, showers, bed, and another late night. Big, busy, fun day, and you can feel that things are really coming to life here now. Definitely making the most of these last few good weather days in San Foca.
