Day 125 - Homemade Pizza Night and Finding Our Rhythm in San Foca
Another bit of a sleep in after a slightly later night. The kids were up early again, just hanging out and playing in their room, which has become a bit of a nice little routine. Eventually Kia and Emmett headed downstairs, made coffees, and I took the opportunity to stay in bed a little longer, which was a good reset.
The kids got stuck into breakfast early. They were keen to eat before running, so pancakes were on the menu. Maddie wasn’t quite as keen to get out the door as she had been the day before. She wasn’t really in the mood for a run, but Kia and Emmett were set on sticking to their routine and headed off.
It took a bit of convincing, but Maddie and I eventually got moving. We started with some run-walk intervals, around 400 metres on and 100 off, and not too far in we crossed paths with Kia and Emmett heading back the other way. Maddie was quick to change plans and join them on the return, so I kept going and ran all the way out to Roca and back. Ended up being a nice 5km loop.
After the run, Emmett and I headed down to the local shop to grab bread rolls and a few bits for breakfast. It’s quickly becoming one of those small daily rituals that just works.
The weather wasn’t great, windy and a bit unpredictable, so it turned into more of an indoor day. I spent a solid chunk of time working on the website, which I’m really enjoying at the moment. Making some bigger changes, reorganising pages, and building things out properly has been a good creative outlet.
Kia and the kids got stuck into some schoolwork and a few brain exercises we’ve been mixing in, and it was one of those days where everyone just found their own rhythm.
Later in the afternoon, Emmett and I ducked out for a quick walk along the beach, but the wind made it pretty short-lived. Gusts were up around 30 km/h, so even with the sun out, it wasn’t overly enjoyable.
Dinner ended up being a highlight of the day. Kia and Maddie made pizza bases from scratch, and then everyone got involved making their own pizzas. We shared them all for dinner, which was a lot of fun, and honestly, they were some of the best pizzas we’ve had since being in Italy.
We’ve been keeping the kids away from screens for the most part, so letting them watch a movie afterwards felt like a bit of a treat. They were completely into it, and the break from constant technology has actually been a huge game changer for us as a family.
The town is starting to feel a bit more alive now. There are definitely more people around, and it looks like there might be some kind of walking route or event going on, with a lot of hikers and backpackers staying nearby.
It wasn’t a big adventure day, but it was a good one. A routine day. The kind where things start to feel normal. The accommodation is growing on everyone, the rhythm of the town is settling in, and those little daily habits are starting to stack up.
The weather hasn’t quite delivered what we expected yet. We were hoping for more beach days, but it’s still a bit too cool and windy. When the sun is out and the wind drops, it’s actually beautiful, so hopefully a few of those days are coming.
For now, we’re settling in and enjoying the routine.
