This blog is our daily journal from the road. These posts capture our days as they unfold while travelling long term as a family. They’re written in real time, without polish or hindsight, and reflect the small moments, routines, and rhythms of life on the move.
Longer reflections and feature stories live separately on our Stories page.
Day 36 - Boxing Day Goodbye: Leaving the Forest Hub for Neon Nights in Da Nang
Day 37 of our worldschooling adventure was a big one. After 20 unforgettable days at the forest hub, we packed up, said emotional goodbyes, survived flight delays, and landed in a neon-lit Da Nang just before midnight. From water pistol pool fights to airport drink vouchers and a surprise Brisbane encounter, it was a long but memorable Boxing Day travel day.
Day 35 - Christmas in Vietnam: Sick Bellies, Kem Beach & What Really Matters
Christmas on a tropical island wasn’t quite what we expected. Sick bellies, expensive taxi rides, clear blue water at Kem Beach, and a quiet night in. A different kind of Christmas and a reminder that family is what truly makes the day special.
Day 34 - Christmas Eve in the Tropics: Tacos, Secret Santa & A Late-Night Dash
Christmas Eve started with a sweaty tropical run and ended with tacos, Secret Santa laughs, and a sudden dash back to the room when not everyone was feeling their best. A simple, slightly chaotic, and very real Christmas Eve on the road.
Day 33 - Big Pools, Fast Toys & a Resort Day in Phu Quoc
A spontaneous day pass to Novotel turned into one of our favourite family days yet. Featuring underwater motor toys, big pools, beach time and market wandering. Day 33 was simple, social and seriously fun.
Day 32 - When Travel Starts to Feel Like Home
A scooter ride to a strange botanical waterfall park, kids swimming under rainforest cascades, pool time back at the resort, and another simple bowl of local noodles for dinner. Day 32 wasn’t big or dramatic, but something shifted. After weeks on the road, this place no longer feels like a stopover. It feels like home.
Day 16 - Birds, Giraffes & 10,000 Steps at Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc
We thought Vinpearl Safari was just another zoo. We were wrong. From an army of flamingos and birds of prey to feeding giraffes at sunset, Day 15 turned into one of the wildest and most memorable days of our Vietnam adventure. Over 10,000 steps, one missed safari bus, and a whole lot of animals later, we were completely blown away.
Day 15 - Slow Mornings, Banh Mi Runs & Big Lessons on Resilience
Day 15 was another slow, steady day on the island. Morning exercise, Rosie reading a book, more banh mi runs on the scooters, and a lazy afternoon by the pool. We wrapped the night watching Chris Hemsworth’s Limitless and talking about resilience, pain, and mindset while also navigating sibling tension and the challenges of worldschooling on the road.
Day 14 - Scooters, Beach Days & 40 Million Dong Adventures in Phu Quoc
Two weeks into our family world-schooling adventure in Phu Quoc and the days are flying by. Between Vietnamese coffee mornings, scooter missions for fresh bánh mì, glassy beach swims, and the chaos of withdrawing 40 million dong from an ATM, Day 14 was equal parts relaxed and adventurous.
Day 13 - Slow Mornings, Scooter Lunch Runs & DJ Booth Fun in Phu Quoc
Day 13 in Phu Quoc was all about slow starts and simple wins. From family workouts on the patio and Rosie’s hilarious Cu Chi Tunnels tribute, to scooter lunch runs, rich local buffet finds, and the kids taking over a DJ booth at dinner — it was a cruisy day full of small adventures.
Day 12 - Power Outages, Pool Punch & Scooter Runs into Town
A morning workout, another island-wide power outage, Rosie hanging from the door sign, and scooter runs for banh mi. Day 12 was simple, slow, and unexpectedly perfect.
Day 11 - Power Outages, Scooter Work Runs & Rosie the Elf Finds Us in Vietnam
Day 11 in Phu Quoc brought rolling blackouts, scooter laptop commutes, an expensive jetty dinner in the dark, and a surprise visitor… Rosie the Elf on the Shelf somehow tracked us down in Vietnam.
Day 10 - Power Outages, Banh Mi and Market Chaos in Phu Quoc
Day 10 on Phu Quoc brought a full island blackout, crystal-clear water at Ông Lang Beach, pork noodle soup overload, and total chaos at the Duong Dong night markets when the power suddenly cut out. Generators fired up, Banh Mi was devoured mid-blackout, and we discovered the island’s subsea cable had been damaged. One of those wild travel days you’ll never forget.
Day 9 - Scooters, Sugar Limits and a Sunset Blackout in Phu Quoc
Day 9 in Phu Quoc brought scooter adventures, two stunning beaches, sugar-controlled kids, a dirt-track detour, and a surprise island-wide blackout. One of those simple, sunny days that ended better than expected.
Day 8 - Phu Quoc: Beach Rides, Buffet Feasts & Balancing Work With Worldschooling
A slow island Friday in Phu Quoc with buffet breakfasts, remote work, beach bike rides, surprise Vietnamese dishes and an uphill cycle that nearly finished our legs.
Day 7 - Ferries, Rough Seas and a Three-Car Shuffle to Phu Quoc
A full travel day from the Mekong Delta to Phu Quoc, complete with ferry crossings, bun shortages, rough seas, luggage chaos and a three-car shuffle before finally arriving at Bambusa Resort.
