Day Twelve - 02/12/25
We were all awake before 7am and the hunt for Rosie was on. Yesterday she was in the bathroom, but this morning she’d relocated herself to the Do Not Disturb sign just inside the front door. Just hanging there like it was the most natural thing in the world. The kids were puzzled but entertained. So, cheers Rosie, thanks for keeping things interesting.
After that entertainment and before breakfast we squeezed in a little family workout session out on our patio. Skipping ropes, band work, sit-ups, push-ups, the kids were all in on it, and it was another great start to the day together.
Then we wandered down to the buffet, did our best to steer the kids away from the sugar and juice, and Kia and I happily drank our bodyweight in coffee. Again.
After breakfast I rode down to the coworking spot I’d used yesterday, only to find out they’d lost power as well. So, I turned straight back around. Reception only had the generator power, and they were full of devices to charge, so I headed back to our room and tried to squeeze in what I could on my work laptop’s measly one-hour battery. I managed to knock over a bit before it died, then took it to reception and added it to all the other devices being charged and joined the kids in the pool.
While we were swimming the staff surprised everyone with fruit punch as a little apology for the power issues, super kind. Not long after, Anh came down with the good news, a massive generator was being hooked up. I’d seen it earlier and assumed it would take all day, but by just after lunch, the whole resort had power again. Absolute miracle.
I thought about jumping back into work, but Kia had her laptop set up and was deep into editing the first documentary-style YouTube video we’re making about the trip. She was pulling together clips from our Cairns interview, the house-packing chaos, and the early days of our adventure. It was pretty cool watching her bring it all to life.
Because last night’s dinner was a bit pricey, we decided to keep things simple. I hired a scooter, Maddie hopped on with me, and we ducked into town for lunch. Found a street vendor selling cheap banh mi and brought them back to the resort. Perfect.
We did the same thing for dinner, this time Emmett came for the ride, and we grabbed what we thought was pho. Turned out to be a super fishy broth that none of us could really push through. I ate the noodles and pork, but the broth… yeah, no. The kids barely touched it. Luckily it was cheap, so no harm done and still way cheaper than eating nearby.
The rest of the evening was low-key. Early to bed, everyone happy, everyone relaxed. A chill day from start to finish—and plenty more like this on the way.
