Da Nang
That Perfect Middle Ground
Da Nang is one of those places that just feels easy.
After the energy of Ho Chi Minh City and the slower rhythm of places like the Mekong Delta and Phu Quoc, Da Nang sits right in the middle.
Not too chaotic. Not too quiet.
Just a really good balance.
First Impressions
Arriving in Da Nang, the first thing you notice is the space.
Wide roads, a long stretch of coastline, and a city that feels more open and organised than a lot of other places in Vietnam.
It still has that Vietnamese energy, scooters, street food, life happening everywhere… but it feels calmer. More spread out.
And having the beach right there changes everything.
Beach Meets City
This is what makes Da Nang stand out.
You can wake up, grab a coffee, head down to the beach, and then be back in the middle of the city not long after.
It’s not one or the other. It’s both.
Some days were slow. Beach, food, a bit of exploring.
Other days we’d head into the city, wander the streets, find somewhere to eat, and just take it all in.
It never felt like too much.
Getting Around and Exploring
Like most places in Vietnam, getting around is easy once you settle into it.
Scooters, Grab rides, or just walking depending on where you are.
Da Nang is also a great base.
You’ve got places like Hoi An not too far away, which adds another layer to the experience. Easy day trips, different scenery, and a chance to see a different side of Vietnam without having to pack up and move.
Travelling as a Family
Da Nang worked really well with the kids.
The beach is a big part of that. Space to run around, swim, and just be kids.
It’s also less overwhelming than some of the bigger cities, which makes it easier to settle into a routine, even if it’s only for a short time.
We could slow things down when we needed to, but still had plenty of options when we wanted to do something.
What Stood Out
The balance.
That’s what kept coming back.
City life without the chaos. Beach life without feeling isolated.
It’s one of those places where you could easily stay longer than planned without even realising it.
Looking Back
Da Nang might not have the same intensity as Ho Chi Minh City or the same “first stop” significance as Phu Quoc.
But it’s a place that just works.
Easy, enjoyable, and a really nice reset point in the middle of everything.
