Day 131 – Stormy Skies and Slow Days

It was a slow start this morning after a rough night of sleep. A storm rolled through overnight, with constant thunder and lightning. The thunder here feels different to back home. Instead of a sharp crack, it just rolls on and on. Maybe it’s the flat landscape or being close to the ocean, but it definitely kept us up more than usual.

We all slept in and didn’t get moving until around 8, easing into the morning with coffees as usual.

Maddie woke up keen for a run, which felt like a good sign for the day. We all got ready and headed out, but as soon as we hit the street, the weather turned up a notch. It started raining harder and the wind was pretty strong. We made it to the corner, looked at each other, and called it. No run today.

Back at the house, Kia and I pivoted to a couple of Tabata workout rounds instead. Not quite the same, but it got the heart rate up and felt good to move.

The kids settled straight into Easter crafts and didn’t really stop all day. Bunny ears, drawings, baskets, decorations. They turned the place into a full Easter setup and kept themselves busy for hours, which was pretty impressive. We all sat down together for lunch before they went straight back into it again.

I jumped on a few work emails in the morning, then spent a good chunk of time pushing the website forward. It finally feels like it’s getting close to where I want it. Another few hours and it should be at that point where it’s just maintenance and adding stories as we go. That’s a pretty exciting feeling after putting so much time into it.

We also locked in our next move, booking an overnight train from Puglia up to Lake Garda. Flights had jumped quite a bit since we last checked, so the train made more sense. It doubles as both transport and accommodation, and we’ve organised a late check-out here to make the timing work nicely.

At some point during the day we also ran out of gas, so had to organise a new bottle to be delivered. Just one of those little travel life things that pops up.

Kia spent some time working on Instagram videos, I cooked dinner, and the kids settled in with a TV show. We finished the day with a few card games together before winding down.

Nothing overly big today, just one of those slower, at-home days… but sometimes they’re exactly what you need.
