Day Twenty - 10/12/25

I’m writing this a few days after the fact, so the details are a bit fuzzy, but the main beats are still there.

The kids woke up and found Rosie again. I honestly can’t remember exactly what she was up to this time, just that she was somewhere doing something mischievous and the kids were happy to find her.

After running yesterday with Deric, he and his family are from New York, he had organised a small running group of myself, Fernando (Better Together Hub Organiser) and himself. We headed out for a short run, but again, it was really nice to get out and run with other people for a change. After the run, it was straight into the pool for a cooldown, a quick change of clothes and it was down to breakfast with Kia and the kids.

After breakfast, the great toilet clog of 2025 unfolded. Emmett used what appeared to be half a role of toilet paper to wipe his tiny little butt, and then decided to try flush the mountain down the toilet. Vietnam has a toilet paper in the bin policy, as their small pipes are unable to cope with even a small amount of toilet paper. What ended up happening was a clog beyond the reach of western hands in plastic bags and an awkward conversation with reception to remedy the problem. I’d like to say this was end of our toilet issues…

After that saga, we had a relatively calm day. I got stuck into some work. Kia and the kids tried some schoolwork, and the day cruised on by. The kids had a lantern making class which Emmett got to early and built his, while Maddie lagged in the room for a while before decided she wanted to do it. A group organised some afternoon pickleball, which Emmett and Kia were keen for, but Maddie wanted to finish her lantern, so Kia stayed behind while Emmett and I attended. So much fun. Emmett ran me ragged.

The evening was a trip to Grandworld with the hub crew. Kia jumped on one of the buses, while the kids and I cruised there on the scooter. A short 45 mins ride with a fuel stop on the way. Grandworld is an interesting place. The outside is a beautiful garden with a huge playground, water features, and a traditional Vitenamese Village, where they have a show every night. We missed the show because it started raining. Inside is a mix between Vietnam and Venice, with bamboo architecture and gondolas on canals. Either side of the canal is filled with shops and restaurants, which were like a copy and paste of massage palas, pizza restaurants, mini marts, ice cream and crepe carts.

We found a place to grab some dinner before hitting one of the crepe carts. Our time at Grandworld was short, but they have a light show which would have been fun to see if it wasn’t on so late. We had to get Kia back to the buses for the trip home, and the kids and I had to brave the journey back in the dark on the scooter. Which was made even more nerve wracking when it started pouring down rain. We were getting pelted so hard, Maddie asked why the rain felt spikey, haha. I guess she has never felt rain hit her at 60km/ hr before. It was a real adventure, but the kids handled it well.

Back at the resort, we dried off, showered and got to bed as it ended up being a pretty late night. Still another good day living the dream.
