Day Seven - 27/11/25
The jetty walk to… no one!
Today was one of those days that’s mostly about getting from Point A to Point B, but somehow still ends up full of small stories.
We started the morning with breakfast out on the deck overlooking the Mekong. It’s the kind of view that makes you slow down and just breathe for a while, wide river, calm air, and a place we’d genuinely grown to love.
After packing our bags and having one last wander around, we hopped into the golf buggy back to the ferry, crossed the river, and then piled into a car for the long drive ahead. The trip to the port took around two to two and a half hours, and once we arrived we had about an hour to kill before the boat. That turned into an unexpected food adventure: the first vendor ran out of bread mid-order, so Maddie and I went hunting for another stall. They had exactly two buns left, which Maddie didn’t want, so Kia and I ate those while Maddie survived on snacks. Classic travel moment.
The boat ride to Phu Quoc was rough, windy, and very spritz-heavy, but the four of us ended up in a row together. Everyone drifted off at some point, which actually made it a strangely relaxing three-hour crossing.
Arriving, however, was… not so relaxing. The boat was absolutely packed and everyone swarmed the luggage area like a Black Friday sale. Some nationalities don’t seem to believe in queuing, and the elbows were flying. Eventually we grabbed our bags and made it out onto the jetty to meet our driver.
Except… he wasn’t there.
The car had “a problem,” so a replacement was sent, only for that driver to take one look at our luggage and practically panic. “Why do you have so much stuff?” he asked. Fair question, honestly. When we explained we’re travelling for 12 months, he immediately phoned a bigger car. Ten minutes later, third time lucky.
It was a smooth 30-minute drive across the island to Bambusa Resort, where we finally checked in, dropped our bags, and exhaled properly for the first time all day. Dinner at the resort was amazing. Simple, fresh, and exactly what we needed, and we were all in bed not long after.
A big travel day ended quietly, and we were more than ready for some island time.
